Marty Supreme follows Marty Mauser, a cocky Lower East Side shoe salesman and gifted but undisciplined ping-pong hustler, as he schemes and cons his way from New York to a championship tournament in Japan, driven by an arrogant belief in his own destiny, navigating complex relationships, hustles for cash, and moral compromises, all while facing the relentless, stressful world of high-stakes ping-pong and his own inflated ego. The film, directed by Josh Safdie, is less about the sport itself and more about Marty's chaotic pursuit of greatness, fame, and escape from his mundane life, often portraying him as unlikable but compelling.
