To celebrate their 10th anniversary Porlock Press film club proudly presents a special one-night only screening of Jan Švankmajer’s Alice!

This is the classic Lewis Carroll story of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland as you’ve never seen it before.

Švankmajer’s first feature film blends live action, stop-motion animation and puppetry to create a fantastical world powered by Surrealism, dream logic and boundless creativity.

A desk drawer becomes a portal to another world where nothing is as it seems. Taxidermied animals spring back to life and consume their own sawdust stuffing as food. A baguette sprouts rusted metal nails like hair. Stopwatches are routinely slathered in butter. A ragtag crew of Frankenstein-like skeleton creatures rides around inside a pigeon-drawn carriage.

These are but glimpses of the strange world Alice encounters as she chases after the White Rabbit before reaching her final destination, an audience with the fearsome Queen of Hearts!

Kristýna Kohoutová gives a brilliant performance as the titular heroine that helps to guide us forward as we follow her through a dizzying parade of bizarre characters and weird scenes.

Alice is a heartfelt ode to the power of imagination, brought to life by a master filmmaker. This is a true labour of love that demands to be seen on the big screen!

Please note this film is screening in Czech with English subtitles.

There will be no trailers running before Alice and it will begin after a brief introduction.
