Deadline

A few days before the final exams, an anonymous notice is scattered across a prestigious private high school, warning that a suicide will occur in seven days. As the principal and teachers try to identify the sender, students and staff are forced to confront the pressures of academic achievement, family expectations and the school system itself. With the deadline approaching, difficult questions emerge about the true meaning of education — and whether the course of events can still be changed.

The international hit musical comes to the big screen! Winner of eight Tony Awards in 2019 including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, HADESTOWN: THE MUSICAL is the genre-defying musical blending modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale of two intertwining love stories, that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and his wife Persephone.

Filmed live on stage in London’s West End and featuring the original Broadway stars, HADESTOWN: THE MUSICAL invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back.

Queen Budapest (12A)

Queen Budapest

On July 27, 1986, Queen performed the largest-ever stadium concert at the Népstadion in Budapest in front of 80,000 ecstatic fans. The concert was part of the famed Magic Tour, which was the last time the band toured with lead singer Freddie Mercury. Now, this original concert film has been beautifully rescanned and remastered in 4K alongside a dynamic new audio mix, featuring many of Queen's favourite tracks—"Bohemian Rhapsody,” "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "I Want To Break Free” and "We Are The Champions." With three years to go before the fall of the Berlin Wall, this was the first Western rock concert performed in a stadium behind the then Iron Curtain. It was of such significance to the Hungarian authorities and film industry that a group of the country’s top film cameramen and technicians were brought together to film it for posterity.

Radiohead X Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (PG)

Radiohead X Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror

Silents Synced pairs classic silent movies with epic rock music to bring audiences a unique big screen experience. This reimagining of the iconic Nosferatu (1922) features Radiohead’s Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001) albums. An unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Nosferatu (1922) is the quintessential silent vampire film, crafted by legendary German director F. W. Murnau. Rather than depicting Dracula as a shape-shifting monster or debonair gentleman, Murnau’s Graf Orlok (as portrayed by Max Schreck) is a nightmarish, spidery creature of bulbous head and taloned claws — perhaps the most genuinely disturbing incarnation of vampirism yet envisioned. Don’t miss out on the chance to experience this imaginative new take on an iconic horror classic!

Repo Man (18)

Repo Man
The Loft Movie Theatre and Porlock Press are proud to present a screening of Alex Cox's ultimate cult classic, Repo Man (1984).

Starring a 21-year-old Emilio Estevez in one of his first leading roles, alongside the inimitable Harry Dean Stanton in one of his rare turns as a lead, Repo Man is an atom-age road movie romp that keeps on giving.

All at once a science fiction conspiracy, a heart-warming buddy comedy, and a fast-paced black comedy thriller, Repo Man comes with an iconic punk rock soundtrack including songs by Black Flag, Iggy Pop, Suicidal Tendencies and even a cameo by the Circle Jerks. With stunning cinematography, a quotable script and a host of crazy characters, Repo Man is essential viewing this September!

This screening is also a 10th anniversary celebration for The Loft Movie Theatre. A decade ago, we held our very first event along with our friends at Porlock Press; a sold-out joint screening of Repo Man in Savoy’s Screen 4. This time, we get to see Repo Man in all its glory on the Savoy’s Screen 1, and we hope you’ll join us!

The Metropolitan Opera: Macbeth (12A LIVE)

The Metropolitan Opera: Macbeth

Sung in Italian with English subtitles.

Two of opera’s most extraordinary artists return to The Met: Live in HD for Verdi’s thrilling take on the immortal Shakespearean tale of the scheming couple determined to seize power at any cost. Following past triumphs in many of Verdi’s signature baritone roles, Quinn Kelsey is the Scottish king haunted by the ghosts of his murderous ascent to the throne, opposite Lise Davidsen—the world’s reigning dramatic soprano—as the power-mad Lady Macbeth, whose ruinous ambition damns them both. Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin takes the podium for a penetrating production by Louisa Proske, a brilliant young director making waves around the world. Rounding out the all-star cast are tenor Freddie De Tommaso as the heroic Macduff and bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green as Macbeth’s friend-turned-victim Banquo. This production is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing opera to cinemas across the globe.
