Doc'n Roll Film Festival - Felix, Dare To Dream (18)

Doc'n Roll Film Festival - Felix, Dare To Dream

A story of defiance, creativity, and the search for freedom, and a cinematic portrait of Felix Leu, artist and patriarch of one of the most iconic and respected families on the international tattooing scene: the Leu Family, a bohemian clan that turned freedom and creativity into their way of life. Son of painter Eva Aeppli and assistant to Jean Tinguely, Felix grew up in Paris’s vibrant 1960s art world before embracing the revolutionary counterculture of the Beat Generation. In New York he met his lifelong partner, Loretta, and together they chose a nomadic path, raising four children while rejecting conformity and living with only time as their true wealth.  In the late 1970s, Felix discovered tattooing, first as a way to support their travels, then as a form of expression in which he became a pioneer, founding what would become the legendary Leu Family Iron. Loretta’s voice guides us through their extraordinary journey through hardship, love, and enduring commitment to artistic exploration. More than a film about tattooing, this is a meditation on independence, identity, and daring to remain true to one’s dreams.

Doc'n Roll Film Festival - Rave Culture: A New Era (18)

Doc'n Roll Film Festival - Rave Culture: A New Era

When Society Fractured, Music Took Over Late 80s.

In an England suffocated by unemployment and Margaret Thatcher’s policies, a generation found refuge and a voice in music. In abandoned factories and secret fields, underground raves were born - explosions of light and sound where thousands of youth escaped social oppression to the rhythm of a new musical genre: breakbeat. Fusing the raw intensity of Detroit techno, the warmth of Chicago house, and the energy of New York hip hop, breakbeat shattered all the rules. Syncopated rhythms, powerful basslines, and limitless production fueled by samplers and synthesizers gave birth to a sound that was not just danced to - it was an act of rebellion.

An electrifying journey into the heart of the rave revolution, from the first illegal beats in England to its global explosion. Through never-before-seen archival footage, interviews with the most underground pioneers, and a soundtrack that still resonates today, this documentary unveils the story of a movement that transformed music, culture, and the very essence of nightlife.

More than a genre. More than a scene. A legacy that still beats.

Doc'n Roll Film Festival - Sound of a Dream: Lee Burridge (18)

Doc'n Roll Film Festival - Sound of a Dream: Lee Burridge

This intimate portrait follows underground DJ Lee Burridge, whose lifelong goal has been to bring people together through music. Blending cinematic storytelling, rare archival footage and access to Burridge’s inner world, the film traces a 40-year journey from a small seaside village in Dorset to some of the world’s most iconic stages, from Fabric London to Burning Man and Coachella. Burridge’s story is one of persistence and passion, and also impermanence. The DJ lifestyle demands sacrifice: communities fade, connections slip away, and the spotlight eventually moves on. As he reflects on these costs, Burridge creates a new sonic language rooted in beauty, longing and emotion. This sound becomes All Day I Dream – a global community, record label, and festival series that defines his legacy. More than just a music film, Sound of a Dream explores the magic of the dancefloor and the universal human search for connection.

Infernal Affairs (15)

Infernal Affairs

On Monday 20th April, Dead Duck Film Club brings the ice-cold precision of Infernal Affairs to the Savoy.

Two men lead stolen lives: a cop lost deep within the Triads and a gangster rising through the police ranks. As both organizations scramble to unmask the "ghost" in their midst, a silent, high-stakes war of identity begins. Shifting away from the explosive tropes of the 90s, directors Andrew Lau and Alan Mak deliver a sophisticated masterclass in paranoia, famously providing the DNA for Martin Scorsese's The Departed.

Sleek, paranoid, and profoundly influential, experience the definitive Hong Kong thriller on the big screen.

Krol dopalaczy (15)

Krol dopalaczy

In Polish with English Subtitles.

How do you make big money fast in Poland at the turn of the 2000s?

Many wanted to know but Dawid simply had to find out. When his father’s business collapsed, the family was left with nothing overnight, and Dawid was forced to take responsibility. That’s when someone floated an idea: legal highs. Fully legal substitutes for drugs. Supposedly safe fun for thousands of young people.

The idea took off — and the money started pouring in. The business grew so fast Dawid struggled to keep up with demand. His in-house chemist kept inventing increasingly sophisticated formulas. It felt like the world was at his feet: beautiful women, fast cars, the respect of the criminal underworld and deals made at the highest levels of power.

But it soon became clear that legal highs weren’t quite as legal — or as safe — as promised. Worse still, a police officer who couldn’t be bought entered the game, while competitors were just waiting for the perfect moment to take Dawid down.

MUSIK (15)

MUSIK

Frances Barber stars as Billie Trix — icon, radical, existentialist, and complete disaster — in this bold and hilarious one-woman odyssey through the 20th and 21st Centuries. From post-war Berlin to the New York art scene, from folk duos to disco comebacks, Billie Trix has done it all — often naked, usually high, and always on her own terms. Drawing on her warped memories, lost loves, and chaotic career, Billie delivers a savage, surreal monologue that collides memoir, stand-up, and cabaret. Blending monologue with original songs by The Pet Shop Boys, MUSIK is a genre- defying exploration of fame, failure, and fierce individuality — wrapped in sequins and spiked with satire. At once riotous and poignant, this cult show returns as a filmed stage event that cements Billie Trix’s place in the pantheon of outsider icons. As she says herself: “I am music. Ich bin Musik. Without me, there is nothing.”

Terminator Double Bill (15)

Terminator Double Bill

The Loft Movie Theatre is excited to present a very special double-bill screening of James Cameron's sci-fi action classics, The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991).

The Terminator (1984)

In the year 1984, Los Angeles college student Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) finds herself the target of a seemingly unstoppable hitman, hell-bent on wiping out all LA citizens with the same name.

But when she is dramatically rescued by a mysterious stranger claiming to be a soldier of the human resistance army from the post-apocalyptic future of 2029, she learns that 'The Terminator' (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is actually a T-800 - an android killing machine sent from the same time to locate and assassinate the mother of a John Connor - the future leader of the human resistance and the enemy of his creators.

With the fate of mankind in their hands, Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) must do everything in their power to prevent the deadly cyborg from carrying out his orders and changing the course of history forever.

With an iconic performance from Arnold Schwarzenegger and unforgettable practical effects from Stan Winston, The Terminator is the B-Movie-turned-Blockbuster that spawned a billion-dollar movie franchise.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

Eleven years after the T-800 failed its mission, a more advanced cyborg (Robert Patrick) is sent from the same post-apocalyptic future on an assignment to kill Sarah's ten-year old son, John. The 'T-1000' is a more advanced machine, seemingly indestructible, with shape-shifting capabilities, and a relentless drive to complete its mission. But as the T-1000 starts to zone in on its target, the John Connor of the future sends back a re-programmed T-800 to protect his younger self and destroy the newer model.

With adrenalised action, dramatic showdowns, time travel quandaries and ground-breaking CGI, Terminator 2 is one of the most successful and well-loved film sequels of all time.
